Michael Blache is the Chief Information Security Officer of TaxSlayer, a software development company specializing in tax preparation software for professional and individual tax preparers. Promoted to this role in 2015, Michael has been instrumental in organizing and structuring the organization’s first dedicated Information Security Department utilizing the NIST Cybersecurity Framework. Michael is responsible for the vision and mission of TaxSlayer’s Information Security program in regards to security operations, regulatory compliance, disaster recovery, fraud, and business continuity.
Starting at TaxSlayer 14 years ago as an IT manager, Michael was quickly promoted to Director of Information Technology. In this position, Michael drove the transformation of the organization’s information technology infrastructure during a time of expansive growth. Michael was responsible for standing up TaxSlayer’s first network operations center allowing round the clock monitoring of critical systems. Michael has been selected by TaxSlayer’s executives, on multiple occasions, to receive the organization’s highly coveted “Moving Your Division to the Next Level” award.
Michael currently serves on the board of directors for the National Technology Security Coalition, serves on the senior executive board for the Identity Theft and Tax Refund Fraud ISAC, and is also a member of the GIAC advisory board. Michael also holds a Master’s Degree of Information Assurance from Norwich University and multiple industry certifications from SANS, ISC2, Microsoft, and others.
As a respected thought leader, Michael frequently speaks on a wide range of security topics. Most recently, Michael has spoken on the advantages and disadvantages of bug bounty programs, the role of the CISO in influencing public policy, and the challenges CISO’s currently face in training an retaining top talent.
